About TEAM PHILIPPINES

Team Philippines is a program which aims to provide basic medical care to the impoverished population of Calauan, The Philippines, following Typhoon Ketsana and the relocation of those affected from Pasig City, Manila, in 2009.

The program began in 2013, when Dr Charlotte Hespe and a small group of medical students travelled to the region with no electricity, clean running water, access to schooling and employment. Since then, the project is conducted in July and November, involving a larger group of Australian doctors, dentists, medical students from the University of Notre Dame, along with volunteers from St Barnaby’s Church in Broadway.

Dream it

Team Philippines offers a variety of health services to help combat the many inequalities and inequities experienced by the Calauan community and has worked to build relationships with key stakeholders in the community to provide ongoing care between the six-monthly Team Philippines visits. This helps provide a sustainable model of care and embed the improvement of health care within the community in true partnership.

Unfortunately, since the Pandemic, the program has been on hold due to travel restrictions and risk to all participants due to COVID-19.

We are continuing to fund and support community projects but will review the program for Medical student participation at end 2022 due to risk of infection.
